We are looking for an experienced and ambitious Engineering Manager to join our team at Johnstone!  This is the perfect opportunity for someone who is experienced in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of heavy vehicles and now looking for the next step in their career – but without giving up the tools for good.  Because, as an Engineering Manager at McGill’s you’ll spend your time leading your team whilst still getting your hands on the tools, using your experience to mentor and help your team solve the complex problems.  With our doors open to all, you’ll have the chance to build a fulfilling career with us, one where you can explore your passions, aspirations and realise your full potential.

You will be leading a dedicated and experienced team including engineers, painters and coachbuilders supporting, advising, and managing them to maintain and repair our modern fleet.

This is a key role within team, you will be entering the business at a senior level with responsibility for KPI targets, your own engineering budget and spend, procurement, health and safety as well as vehicle standards and OCRS performance. It goes without saying that we will support you during your journey to be a brilliant Engineering Manager- so if you need training, developing or just the input of the wider team we will be here for you. 

Now to what we need from you as our next Engineering Manager:

  • Bus/truck or light commercial experience is preferred- but let us know if you come from a different background.
  • People management won’t be new to you, leading a team is key to this role so experience of this is required.
  • Have a passion for engineering and a focus on standards and quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver both DVSA and company standards ensuring a focus on standards, quality, and engineering performance.
  • Focus on MOT pass rates and OCRS compliance.
  • Efficiently allocate resources with a focus on budget adherence, ensuring that standards and safety are a focus while managing spend.
